What We Like about It – We love the fact that it can be converted into a naptime bed for little kids; just add a comfy mattress. And while Step2 says the toy has a 75-lb weight limit, we have seen a number of parents attesting to a weight capacity reaching up to 100 lbs.

The canopy has a small compartment for holding Mom or Dad’s keys and other essentials while pulling or pulling the wagon. Sandwiching the compartment are 2 cup holders.
What We Like about It – We love the simple yet very durable design. At the very least, kids will be protected from the sun or drizzle with its sturdy canopy. The storage compartments are also remarkable.
4Full Size All-Terrain Steel and Wood Wagon by Radio Flyer
Age Range: At least 18 months old
It’s your own version of a monster vehicle. The Full Size All Terrain Steel and Wood offers a very classic ride with unusually large 10-inch inflatable rubber tires for optimum comfortable ride over any type of terrain. The body is made of high grade seamless steel and supported by high quality natural wood on the sides, pretty much like the old days. These wooden side rails can be detached by removing the bolts that connect them to the all-steel body so the wagon can be used for other purposes. The recommended weight limit is 200 lbs. so Dad can jump right in, too. You have to remove the wooden sides, though.
What We Like about It – It has a very classic design yet tweaked to be taken over a variety of terrain. Older kids and even grownups can then use it as a trolley for other purposes as long as they don’t exceed the weight limit.
5Wagon for Two Plus by Step2
Age Range: 18 months to 6 years old
Step2’s solid plastic body, easily accommodating two kids, is a great option for young kids. It is actually lightweight that even a 3-year old can actually pull it on his or her own. It comes with an easy-latch door as well as well-contoured seats that flips to reveal a very interesting storage compartment inside. The leg well is deep and the floor surface has built-in molded-in drain holes so that cleaning will be as easy as hosing it down. The seats come with seatbelts and has a cup holder on the side.
What We Like about It – It’s simple enough to let your toddlers and preschoolers have a great day at the park. There have been questions about whether it can be used on the beach and with its wide and large wheels, we believe it can be a great beach buggy.
6Whisper Ride Touring Wagon by Step2
Age Range: 18 months to 4 years old
The Whisper Ride Touring From Step2 is perhaps one of the most versatile options we have seen so far. Attach the accompanying table surface and this provides a convenient mobile dining experience for kids. Lay the table panel across the leg well and you now have a daytime bed for your little tot. Store the table panel in a secret compartment and then remove or detach the high side walls and you now have a complete flatbed trailer, perfect for hauling different items for up to 100 lbs. It also has a removable canopy so Junior or Princess can have unlimited view of the world around them. The wagon’s handle conveniently folds back underneath the chassis for easy storage.
What We Like about It – We really like the versatility offered here. Our only lament is that the wheels are quite thin compared to other models. This can limit its weight capacity. However, the fact that there’s a lot of things that can be done with the Whisper Ride makes it one of our favourite from the list.
7Pacific Cycle Steel by Roadmaster
Age Range: 2 to 5 years old
With a classic design, high ground clearance, large 8-inch wheels, a no pinch handle, and a 34-inch all-steel seamless bed, the Pacific Cycle Steel is something that is as close to the original classic as it can get. Even the undercarriage mechanism is made of only the highest grade materials complete with rubber, not plastic, tires for optimum riding comfort. It has a weight limit of 250 lbs.
What We Like about It – This 34-inch classic Pacific Cycle Steel is lightweight enough to be pulled even by a 2.5-year old kid; provided, of course, it isn’t carrying anything. Otherwise, Dad can use this, too for hauling all of his home improvement materials as it can carry up to 250 lbs.

How We Chose the Most Popular in Our List
Choosing the leading options is never easy since they all belong to the same category and pretty much have the same basic structure. However, our research showed that there are particular elements that can truly separate one model from another.
We considered the overall design, particularly the different benefits it can provide to children in terms of their growth and development. We also carefully examined the different features that are built-in and determine whether these features play a role in the development of the child as well as provide for other benefits for the whole family. Of course, we also had to consider the safety and reliability of its construction as children will be riding on in these toys. We are talking about not just a single child but at least 2 children so durability, rigidity of chassis, and overall structural integrity are a must. Then, we also had to read feedbacks from parents as well as other consumer reviews and reports about their experiences with the wagon. Lastly, we had to look at the credibility of the wagon maker.
We know these are the same things that you will be looking for in the best wagon for your children. We also know that there’s actually an ocean of wagons out there so we have made this shortlist of the 12 best for children so you don’t have to fret about the enormity of the selection process. At the very least, you will only need to choose from our 12.
Ride-On Toys – Their Value in Child Growth and Development
Unlike other types of ride-on toys like rocking toys, pedal toys, tricycles, scooters, and bicycles, wagons are particularly beneficial in developing a child’s social skills. This is especially true for larger varieties that can accommodate at least two kids. They learn to share the seat with other children. Smaller versions can also benefit the development of the child’s social skills. These smaller versions like the classic pull toy wagon or sled teach kids about taking turns and about valuing another kid’s time.
Playing with other children also teaches them cooperation. For example, one child rides on while another child or two pulls. They then take turns riding and pulling until everyone has had the chance of both riding and pulling. This can also be a great opportunity for accomplishing a certain task a lot faster. For example, they can all agree to bring their toys to a particular area of the park. Instead of carrying them one by one, they can all agree to put their toys on the wagon and all of them will be pulling towards their agreed upon area. This is the essence of teamwork and cooperation.
In addition to the development of their social skills, children riding or pulling on them eventually learn to expand on their language development and communication skills especially in the use of language within the context of social interaction. They eventually learn pragmatics and how this can be used for different purposes, changing their language to suit a particular situation, and following the rules of ordinary conversations as well as storytelling.
Ride On Toys can also benefit the psychomotor development of older children. It’s a great way to help tone and strengthen their arm and leg muscles as they attempt to pull the wagon over a certain distance. They need to firmly plant their feet and establish a stable stance so they won’t fall. This also helps them enhance their muscle coordination and spatial intelligence as they need to understand just how far their next step should be to still maintain balance while moving. This is a lot better than having older kids stay in front of the computer all day long. It’s a great way to encourage increased physical activity to help fight the growing concern of childhood obesity.
For little children who are not yet strong enough to pull the product, they can still benefit from this particular toy. Riding onboard encourages imagination which can be the foundation for creativity. As young children take a leisurely cruise in the park or in the neighborhood, they are able to pretend that they are on a luxury cruise ship traveling on the Caribbean or even a wide-bodied jumbo jet soaring above the sky. The sensation of movement allows their brains to think of other instances where movement is involved like riding on a bus, a plane, a car, or even a train. The point of the matter is that wagon play allows children to let their imaginations fly.
There are other benefits in terms of the optimum growth and development of children. It is therefore not really surprising why there are a lot of parents who buy these type of products for their kids. And with our list of the 12 most popular products, you too can give your children the best ride of their life!
